Dempsy's Mom

I was out watering the flowers. All of a sudden I smelled a skunk. Hmmm. :confused1: I ignored it at first and then I stepped back and there in the grass was one of the baby skunks. He was so cute - he ran back in the shelterbelt. I finished watering. Dempsy has been barking - nothing unusual. Demps was pointed right towards the lilac bushes - it's awful funny that he is barking so intently - so I peaked in the bushes and there was another little baby stinker. He was even smaller. Well, there's one thing you can count on with me and it's that I can't resist a baby even if it is STUPID. :nono: I still wonder if they think that Demps is mom.? They sure turn up when he's around.

I crawled around inside the bushes till I grabbed him. He did stink a little, but well worth the odor. I thought I would start your holiday off with a very sweet video. Hope you enjoy him. :)

You are one brave lady with lil "hotstuff" - they are extremely cute but I would err on the side of caution as I have never seen a close-up of a skunk. Poor Dempsy sure knew it was there and was panting quite heavily. Wonder what he would have done if he had gotten closer. Once again those are great videos - so I think I'll dub you the "queen farmlady."

Wow, you're braver than I would be, but he sure is a cutie. I'm amazed that Dempsey is so quiet, other than the panting. Kirby would be screeching his head off and Packy would be barking. He looks adorable amongst all the flowers!

Laughing here, I was going to say the same thing....You are one daring person. You and Demps may have a new pet "Pepe Le Pew". I have to say thou it is really cute, but do get a little nervous when it turns around - butt view.

I have always been amazed that something so cute can smell so bad. You are braver than I am. I would not want to be sprayed. Thanks for sharing

great videos with us. Happy 4th!

It sure was a pleasure/honor to hold and feel the little skunk - I probably won't do it again - but it sure was fun. As for the flowers - thank you for the compliment. I don't have as many this year, but I like having flowers around. I thought it was just perfect to put the little stinker in a flower pot. :P

I know what you mean. Several years ago (pre-Cairn) a baby opossum came wandering into my yard while I was gardening. He was headed toward the street and I couldn't just let him go, so I picked him up to move him to a safer place. He promptly peed on me and then did what his instincts told him to do - played dead. I put him on the ground in back of the garage and watched him for a minute. He opened one eye to see if it was safe, then scurried away. Gotta love the babies. :)

What great videos! I third (or fourth) that you're brave! I thought Dempsy was behaving very well! You could tell he wanted closer, but he wasn't barking or anything. Keep these videos coming!
