FL Frey Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone trims the hair around there fur babies faces. My little Baylee has a Bad Hair Day all the time, but I like it. Here is a picture from this morning. She was being a bit shy, which is TOTALLY so not like her.
Hawkeye Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Baylee is a little sweetie and I love her name. I also have a Bailey (male). I do trim/pull around their faces to try and keep it tidy in a scrappy way. My Bailey tends to get really bushy and it comes in a light gray. Looks weird with his black mask so I keep it cleaned up more. Either way they are so darn cute!
Idaho Cairns Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I do try to keep their faces trimmed. Get rid of the "Grouchos" so I can see their eyes and trim the ears up a bit. I always manage to get them a little off kilter tho--can't seem to find that perfect circle I'm looking for. I usually use trimming shears and a comb with small scissors for the ears. My dogs won't sit still long enough to do too much and stripping hair around ears and eyes is just out of the question--a couple of tugs on hair in that area and I get the old Cairn "What the heck is that all about?" look followed by a run for shelter behind the couch or under the bed.
kjwarnold Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I trim their bangs a bit so I can see their beautiful eyes. I also trim up the billy goat gruff beard they get, under the chin. For both, I use thinning shears so it looks a little more natural. Just finger stripping on ears for Packy, but I use a little cordless trimmer on Kirby's ears -- for some reason, it's really hard to pull hair on his ears. Bailey is a cutie, bad hair day or not! I think Cairns frequently have bed head! Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Lynn in TN Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Baylee is beautiful. I really like the bed head look. My Kelly is still to young (doesn't have enough fur yet) to do anything with. I will probably do something with the eyes if ever needed. I love to see those expressive eyes.
Nena Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I do trim around the eyes and face. Hand strip the ears it comes out really easy cairn terriers leave pawprints on our lives
lindasue Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I do Pegi's "bangs" when she gets the Andy Rooney look - and the groomer will trim around her face. Linda & Pegi
Dempsy's Mom Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Haha. I love Baylee's morning do. She's looking at you like, "Really. You're really going to show everybody what I look like just out of bed. There's just no privacy these days." I to trim around Demps head and ears. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
KerryJayne Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I stripped Nessie's ears when she was just few mths old as my breeder said could help her ears prick and then I trimmed round the outline very carefully with a pair of baby nail scissors I also trimmed the long bit from her eyes as they were getting gunky I'm lucky my breeder is a groomer and gives me tips From Kerry, Molly the Westie, Peppa the black Lab, and Nessie the Cairn xx
poppydog Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I just trimmed the hair yesterday around the face. I can see her eyes and her beard isn't so long!
GirlieJr Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I'm always shocked to read these as I picture all of your sweet babies just sitting so still and perfect letting mommy trim their face. Trying to do ANY grooming to Jack is like trying to change a toddlers diaper....he's never still and constantly trying to escape! I have to take him to a groomer (he sits still for them....probably out of fear! ha) and they never do it right. They always want to cut him like a Schnauzer. I do like his face long though...he looks so cute when his facial hair frames his little expressions. I love those looks! Jack's Mom
sanford Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 They always want to cut him like a Schnauzer. Some groomers do this to cairns because they really don't know what a cairn should look like... Many have never seen one. Get some photos from the internet showing cairns with properly groomed heads and bring them with you to the groomer next time! FEAR THE CAIRN!
CarmineCairn Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I let the groomer shave my dog's fur completely every after 6 months to promote growth of new fur and to protect my dog from the hot weather. I think hair in the face should be groom because they get so dirty and smelly especially when they're long. Money will buy a fine cairn terrier dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail.
