I don't know if y'all have heard or seen the website " :censored: my kids ruined," but after reading Lynn's post about the rug and seeing the picture pkcrossley posted it inspired me to start a "Stuff my Cairn's ruined" thread.

Toys: nothing exciting here, I'm sure we all have a million of these pictures

Couches: This was Percy's first attempt at furniture, barely noticable along the bottom

Chairs: Her masterpiece to date

I don't have photographic evidence, but also on her list are: ballpoint pens, reading glasses, and a beaded pillow.

What have your little terrors gotten in to?

LOL My couch now looks like the bottom of yours. The funny thing about it is the couch is so low to the floor she has to slide under it on her belly with her legs outward it is the funniest thing I've ever seen (I'm meaning her determination) She does it so fast I've not been able to get a picture yet. She seems to really like metal also.

Let's see, the cord for my laptop, the cord for my EMS pager (good thing it was old and crappy anyways, those are expensive); the cord attatching my presser foot to my sewing machine (THAT made me angry) so it's a good thing it has a start stop button. A pair of shoes, two pair of slippers, a couple pair of flip flops, and a stuffed animal or two. A SMALL chew area on my couch but that's not horrible I guess. None of it's terribly irreplaceable. I've noticed if his chew toys are running low, or he's getting bord with them, he'll start chewing more on stuff that shouldn't be chewed on.

This is one contest we won't win. To date, Ruffy has only chewed up 2 things: the top of an old sneaker, (which I shouldn't have left lying on the floor) and one braided fringe from a persian rug, which I also left lying on the floor, (l0l!). I hope this it for him!

P.S. Lynn, be sure to keep your camera handy so you can catch Kelly in the act and send us a photo!

Ever since I heard that a dog is like a perpetual 2 year old... lol per PET ual ...hehehe... ok like I was saying, once I read about that, and the comment afterwards that said "you wouldn't leave your 2 year old unsupervised" I just accepted it as true and to date have no ruined personal property... NOW Jeff will get to working on one of his toys and I can tell he is aiming to destroy it, and I imagine if he got the desire to do that to something of mine he would. There is just something in him that makes him want to work on something until it's trashed. No clue why he does it, but I do have a clue when he's going to do it. OH and he has soooooooooooooo many toys to choose from of all different textures and shapes, maybe that's is why he hasn't strayed from his stock lol

The power cords sound dangerous!!

This is a photo of Fudgie. It was submitted to the forum some time ago. I thought it was so funny, I saved it!

I agree funny Sanford as long as it's not in my house. I would definitely freak out if I were to have come home to that scene.

Layla is pretty good - once caught her trying to eat the wool braided rug under the dining room table and put a halt to that. Perhaps she has little chance of being destructive as Oldfox is usually home with her. Now that I'm retired, there is double that as four eyes are better than two.

Percy is a very active girl! Furniture is one of the worst.

And Fudgie the Chairmeister with a "what me?" look!

Only 1 of 3 of our cairns was a Destroyer. Guess we were pretty lucky. Taz chewed multiple rugs, carpet down to the slab, dining room table leg, toys, balls and more that I can't remember right now.

Here's his first dog bed that he tossed upside down and attacked. Also, the toy bone that the pet store said was indestructible!

Yes, luckily, only one of them was pluged in at the time of destruction and that was the EMS pager and it was turned off. Found that out one day when I was cleaning. Found my other cords the same way. I went to go plug in my iron to iron some fabric and the bite he took out of that almost started a fire :censored:. Everything else was shut off and unplugged, thank goodness. The sad part was, the sewing machine foot pedal was only a few weeks ago and he's over a year old, LOL.

Bailey has not distroyed a thing, but Radar...well we have not found a toy he has not distroyed. He nibbled on the arm of our wicker settee, chewed several ear buds, wires to our speakers and a couple of scatter rugs. I keep buying him toys knowing he will distroy them, but prefer that over our stuff. I think he's finally out growing the chewing stage with the exception of his toys.

Other than one laptop power cord, we have been damage free with our dogs. I suspect that there would be hell to pay around here if any furniture was shredded.

Shoes? Chair? Rugs? Check, check, and check.

In all fairness, the chair was old and the padding was showing so Loki might have thought it was a really big plush toy.

Zeus has left teeth marks on the Roomba and my new camera. Both still work, so not technically ruined, just gouged, deeply.

Who rescued whom?

Luckily we haven't had an incident since the chair and that was at least a couple of years ago. And I can't let her take all the blame for it. I had spilled some food in the spot that she chewed and didn't do a good enough job cleaning it up. It's funny now, but I sure was mad when she did it...that was a comfy chair!

Jock has not ruined one thing.... he has never been a chewer :innocent: Our Scottie however made up for all of that. When she was a year old (prior) to getting Jock, we came home to find her dragging the recliner along the living room floor, with the skirt on the bottom of the chair ripped out. Laundry was a favorite of her also (soiled laundry!), eye glasses and many other items. But we discovered that when Jock came onto the scene all of this behaviour stopped. It now is very clear to us that she suffered from anxiety seperation :crybaby: She just could not handle being the only one in the house. I felt terrible about that. She must have been very upset. Because she was a totally different dog when Jock was her roomate.

Jock was a full 8 months old before he had the run of the house when we were not home. He was and is wonderful at not being destructive.

I have no photographic proof, but Murphy chewed the corners on the Pella window sills in the giant kitchen bay windows when he was a puppy. He was baby gated into the kitchen, so why not?

We were moving at the time and had the house up for sale. We had to wood putty, mold, sand, shape, and paint away his woodchuck ways.

Otherwise he's never really been destructive. Oh, wait!! There was the hutch corners. He shared the kitchen with that and went between the window sills and the hutch.

But that's really it. He doesn't really destroy his toys, and when he has the opportunity to steal a shoe, he usually just shakes it and "kills" it; same thing with socks. Ever see a 15 pound dog carrying a size 11 show while trying to remain incognito? Hilarious!

Let's see: the car charger for the blackberry. My son's belt, a couple of pair of shoes, the strap off of a boot, the end of the cable for the TV, numerous toys have been gutted (they're his so he can destroy them at will), the bottom of the window blind (apparently he wanted to see out) any paper left on the floor..... oh, and he nibbled on the floor map in the new truck! Other than that.....

He is an oldy but goody.... My boys enjoy shredding paper like all Cairn's, but Money has a special smell and Metturst just loves it!

Mmmmm, let's have a think.........kitchen cupboard door, rug in hall in fact several rugs, cushions....I've lost count of how many, OH's belt, socks in abundance, his new padded bedding in his crate, computer lead,, fish tank lid, he nibbled the edge of it, the throw we have on the sofa and most of his toys! Also, which I thought was funny, he had a good chew on a puppy training book called 'The Perfect Puppy' whistle.gif

Baylee can destroy a roll of toilet paper in 2 seconds flat. And before I even find it, she's laying back on the couch with her best "I'm such a sweet girl" face. :halo:

This reminded me that when Murphy goes to Gramma and Grampa's house, they think "it's cute" to watch him shred paper, so they encourage it by allowing it... :(

I think Titan has some termite DNA mixed in with his Cairn. He seems to have a preference for wood over fabric or paper so far. So he has to work a little harder at demolishing something. Since he's still new to our house, we keep a close eye on him and correct him when his urge to gnaw something kicks in, other than his authorized articles. We know the potential lies within him for other more mischievous acts, as others have described. But that's part of life with a puppy in the house, isn't it? Titan is a little over 2 years old now, but still has some "puppy power" coursing through his veins. It's been almost 15 years since we've had a puppy in the house, so we're (joyfully) getting re-acquainted with a life of having one.

Well, Fudgie the couch destroyer has recently broken out one of my windows. It is the smaller one behind where the sofa was. My neighbor brought me a basket of fresh strawberries and had the gall to ring the doorbell! Fudgie went nuts big time and busted it. Thankfully she wasn't hurt. Turned into an expensive neighbors act of kindness.

Before some prospective Cairn owner goes thru this thread and decides that this wonderful breed of terrier isn't for them, I want to say that as a long time Cairn owner I am absolutely shocked with the number and kind of destructive behaviors reported here--this is as foreign to my experience with my Cairns as anything I have read on the forum.

I simply cannot imagine coming home to the wreck and ruin that some of you obviously have. I sure don't know what to tell you about how to deal with it either--this is like alien abduction talk -- I just can't get my mind wrapped around it.

I totally agree with Idaho, I have not experienced anything like that!
