percy's_girl Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Percy's favorite seasonal delicacy is back in abundance...dried up sidewalk worms She always manages to sneak in a few on our walks. Apparently the longer they've baked in the sun, the better they are. She'll even smoosh her nose against the sidewalk and use her teeth to scrape them off! The funniest part is when she gets faked out by non-worms that look like them like a piece of a leaf, or pine straw, etc. The other day I was walking her and she had just picked up a dried worm when she spotted something else on the sidewalk. She was very interested in it but staying a safe distance from it. Upon inspection by me it was a dried up chilli pepper! Needless to say she got a stern "Do NOT eat that!"
pindrop Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 It always amazes me what they WILL eat and how quickly they scoop it up - the quicker the scoop the most likely they know we don't want them to eat it. For some reason, there is a certain grass/weed that Layla loves to chomp on. It wouldn't surprise me if Layla decided to suddenly start mooing. Husband and dog missing ...25 cents reward for dog
percy's_girl Posted June 5, 2011 Author Posted June 5, 2011 Percy does the same thing with weeds! But it's just a certain kind (they are real "leafy") and she doesn't eat them, just nips at them. It's cute but I don't like her to do it because I never know if they've been sprayed with anything. Of course they keep growing back in the same place so I doubt they are treated.
Dempsy's Mom Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 "The season of Gummy Worms! Yumyum" - Demps says. ... and if not for eating at the very least a good roll for a little spring worm scent. Elsie, Max, Meeko & Lori
jo_ Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Unfortunately Jagger prefers fresh worms, and the crunch of june bugs...UGH....DISGUSTING! Taking her out for her bed time pee is challenging...she loves to hunt at night. Jo, Jagger & Eddie
dinib Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 My two eat worms, but I have to say, I think they prefer the live ones.
janis Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Kirby like worms, dead stuff like frogs and turtles. He eats the tops of grass that I strongly suspect may be covered with pee mail! And then of course there is poop! Yum! But then how do you explain why he can be such a picky eater when it comes to DOG FOOD!
mrseggcup Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Woof! Eli here. Can't say I'm much for worms but I did bring a TOAD in the house the other nite and left it on the bathroom floor for the Alpha B to find. Boy, was she surprised! HAHA! Good one! Try it. Your uprights will thank you. Woof! Eli
Hawkeye Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Yes...the toad thing. Yuck!! Right now I'm a bit concerned with a bird nest near our house. When the babies decide to take flight, I'm hoping none take a bomber for the ground my two will be waiting for them with a fork and knife.
Tracy A. Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 My two like to roll on fresh worms Tracy, Amos, Walter, Brattwrust & Mettwurst a.k.a The Gremlins
beccadiane374 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Tanner LOVES dead worms...he is like a vacuum on our walks right now. I'd rather he not eat all of them, but I can't keep him away from every one, unless I'm constantly looking down at him and since I need to pay a little bit of attention to where I'm walking, that's not possible. We are also in a cicada year (yuck). I HATE them...they just give me the shivers and they are everywhere. I didn't think he would eat them because when it comes to moths or wasps, he just kills them, but yesterday morning on our walk, he snapped one right out of the air and chowed down. Silly boy...although I can't complain too much about that one, since it was getting ready to land on me...maybe he was just being my hero?! Becky & Tanner
Tuesday Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Murphy hasn't been into the worms, thankfully. He really only likes to gobble up the rabbit pellets and sometimes snack on gopher tortoise poop. I think I'd prefer he like worms....
