It was cute

Dempsy's Mom

Going to rain tonight. Wanted to get just a little yard work in. Was outside, bent over pulling weeds, cat ran by - I thought "she is so sweet" .... a couple seconds, then Digger, the lab, runs by - I thought "isn't that precious" a couple more seconds .... Dempsy runs by :confused1: ... I straightened right up and yelled, "Demps! What are you doing off your leash! Get back here!" And they were all having such a good time chasing each other.

It was kinda cute the way it all happened, but Demps had broke his dog tie cable and it's a good thing I was around. What do you all think is the best dog tie for our dogs? These that I have are just cables that are rubber coated for medium sized dogs. (Walmart or Shopko) Looks like the cable just broke mid leash - maybe rusted a little. :confused1: Any really good dog ties out there?

I've been looking at a cork screw bottom with a retractable circular cable top. They come in various weights for dogs. My only concern is that we have such an abundance of ticks, I'm reluctant to leave her outside on the lawn.

As usual, your stories make me chuckle at Demps antics. He certainly keeps you on your toes. Glad you were around to catch him.

You have such a way with telling your stories! I can see it and here it. You truly need to write a book. I would buy it in a heartbeat.

We used the rubber coated cable for a while until we fenced the yard and I noticed that, in only a year's time, it started showing wear and getting rusty at the ends. We left ours out in the yard all the time, so it was exposed to the weather. (I also discovered that when lawn mower meets cable, cable loses. ) I think they work fine but they have a limited life, so you need to replace them as soon as you notice any damage.

I agree with hheldorfer. I use the coated cable like tie-out, but I replace it after spring. The winter cold makes it brittle, so it can snap & the spring rain rusts the clips. I also always get the 50-75lb dog lead, to be safe.

I think Tanner would have great fun with Dempsy...they'd have a lot adventures together!

I will replace them. This cable that broke was weathered. Thanks! FYI - there about 1/2 the price at Shopko over Wal-mart.
