Ok sorry to say this but my mom is a retard and just wasted 35$ on some "Flee pill"

I told her not to get it because I said it won't work and the best stuff is the stuff you put on there back that is liquid or whatever like Advantage..

So who goes, my mom goes buy it for 35$.... and gives it to the 2 dogs and the very next day, they still keep itching themselves LOL..........

I didn't wanna say anything to my mom...... but she knew she messed up..., just like everytime she wastes her money w/o thinking.. and gives in on the scams.

How the heck does a pill that cost 35$? Last for 1 month, what does it do Release special odor from the dog's skin?

LOL.. .what a scam, just use the liquid stuff if they got flees.. don't buy the pill crap. (PLUS WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS??>>>!!_!_!_)

Thanks, and mom your not retarded, lol <3 (Starcasm)

Are you referring to Comfortis? If so, Molly had a bad reaction to that. We tried it for two months and went back to the liquid.

Comfortis? Ripley's taken that, but I think we are going to switch to advantix. Too expensive.

yeah comfortis

Comfortis works fine for mine, no reactions. I got fleas on Frontline Plus last year. I guess every dog and flea is different

For Layla we just ordered FrontLine Plus @ $67 and a few weeks ago we bought Heartguard - I tell ya..it's not cheap having a dog let alone two or three. The ticks in Maine are horrendous and everywhere. I wish we could treat the lawn and not our dog but having spoken to a lawn expert, there are really no guarantees that they can rid them as it would have to be done on a weekly basis as we live in a forested area and wild animals are always coming through.

Hey Nick, I usually enjoy your posts and I love to read about Fonzy, but pleeeze... give your mom a break! It's not easy being a parent, (as you may find out some day!). I'm sure her intentions were good. Flaming/bashing her isn't nice to do.

Also, do yourself a favor and lose the term "retard". It's disrespectful & hurtful to folks who are challenged and I don't think you would intentionally want to do that.

P.S. You say that Fonzy is still itching after treatment. Could it be possible that the fleas aren't gone? I've read here that fleas can be very difficult to eradicate from the home.

I'm sorry it may not have worked for you, but it's important to keep in mind that, just like people, every dog is different and react different to things. What may work great for one dog might not work at all for another.

And as a student majoring in Elementary Education/Special Education, "retard" is definitely not appropriate in the context. I'm sure there's probably a better word to describe what you're trying to say.

meh whatever, the r word is not a bad word, and i dont see it as a bad word unless i was calling a real mentally disabled person it... then it would be a bad word... but just saying it as a joke, it's fine, don't know your problem,

just close this topic then i dont wan't to discuss this anymore, all i can say is that the comfortis pill does not work for my fonzy and shittz-zu and it's a scam.

/thanks

If Fonzy is still itching, he may have an allergy to something else. Try running over to petco and getting some tea tree oil spray. Spray where he itches the most and see if that helps.

Also, if you are allergic to bug bites, they can itch for days or weeks after the actual bite occurs. I know, I'm allergic to mosquitoes. A single bite swells up to the size of a quarter and will itch like crazy for a couple of weeks if I don't treat it with SOMETHING! You might also try giving him some baby benedryl. I'm not sure exactly what dose to give him, but I'm sure you could google it or someone else might be able to chime in with that answer.

As far as the pill goes, if your yard is heavily infested (mine got that way a couple summers ago) it may kill the fleas that jump on him and bite him. But there might also be more continually jumping on him. I would gently suggest to your mom to see about getting the house and yard treated, esp treat any bedding the dogs sleep on. Wash all of your bedding in HOT water. Bomb the house. Find some granules for the yard.

The itching can also be caused by food sensitivities.

Your ability to stop the dogs from being affected depends on how badly your home is invested with fleas. Fleas can live in the carpet, grass, and on the dogs. When this happens you have to treat all three at the same time to end the infestation. Fleas in the carpet can bite humans and live off them. So you'll need to: Flea bomb the house, at the same time drop the dogs off for a "flea Dip", and there is a specific fertilizer that you can spread on your lawn that will kill any fleas living there.

I apologize but I do feel like it needs to be said that you are correct that "retarded" is not a bad word, but it is often used in a deragatory manner and it seems like this is the manner in which you were using. While you may be using the term in reference to a person who does not have special needs, it is still using a term that is still sometimes used to describe a group of people as a put down. I have many good friends and people I've worked with that do have special needs so I find that using the word in a deragatory manner to be very offensive.

Flea saliva contains an "itch" allergen when they bite, so if the dogs had flea bites before any flea med was used, yes they will continue to itch despite using the flea med, until the "itch" allergen wears off. In very sensitive dogs that might be up to 2 wks, although it's usually a few days to a week and the itch will stop.

I second the tea tree oil idea. I haven't used it in oil form, but I found a dog shampoo that has tea tree oil in it and it works wonders for Ozzy's itchiness. I used Frontline for years without issue, but switched last year when it seemed to stop working on Ozzy and the cats. I use Advantage and Adtantix now and love them both. Also, if you're looking to save some money try to locate the product on Ebay. I only buy it in the sealed packs, not the kits, to make sure it's the real deal. I save a bundle buying on Ebay.

Just like with people the use of pill and products works better for some than others.

My friends in FL use the comfortis on some of the dogs but not all. They are having good results.

I am trying diatomaceous Earth, my yard is treated so I wanted something natural to use on the dogs. But when you use it if the dogs get wet then it is no longer effective and many people don't realize that.

Food grade DE is what you want to use. I copied this from another forum, "i live in nw fla the way i control fleas is i lime my yard twics a month no fleas or ticks and it is safe for the animals". The OP lives near Pensacola. I do not know good spreading lime on the yard is for controlling fleas but at least if you do not over do the lime it might work.

Yes, Comfortis is an expensive pill (10 to 12 dollars per pill) and if one of your pups is a handfull to give pills/meds to like my Zeke, the topicals between the shoulder blades is one option.

Newbie to the forum, first post.
