My wife and I just picked up a 6 week old cairn for my 14 year old daughter Saturday. Her name is Kaylie. I haven't been big on dog owning, but she has already warmed my heart and I have a really big soft spot for her. I can't quite tell whether she is a black and tan or a brindled yet, but I'm sure she will change color as time goes on. She loves nibbling and scratching the hair on my head and burrowing herself in between two pillows. She's not quite as rambunctious and active as I would have expected so far. She does like to sleep ALOT! She has taken very well to potty pads (so far), and does not like to be left alone. She will cry and wimper if you just leave her there, even for a few seconds. I have been reading a lot on the cairn breed and look forward to my me, my wife and my daughter to loving her for years to come. Attached is a pic I took of her yesterday.

What a cutie! 6 weeks is a very young pup. Just like unfurry babies, they sleep alot! I'm sure as she get's a little older you will be posting what a crazed hellion she has gotten to be! Welcome to the forum. This has been a great source of information and support for me with my first Cairn. Great folk here!

Oh how sweet and so small.

Oh my goodness - look how tiny she is. Of course they will sleep a lot - she is very young and needs her sleep. You will have your hands full in the next few months. I have a 7 month old Cairn and know what I'm talking about sadly

We're here when you need us and welcome to the forum. More pictures please!

Welcome! Your new baby is very cute and has the look of mischief in her eyes. You'll definitely be busy for a while! This is a wonderful place to get advice and share news of your girl's progress. (You'll also find that we have plenty of shoulders to cry on if you get frustrated.) We look forward to lots more photos as she grows up!

Congratulations on your beautiful new pup! She is so cute. Can't wait to hear more about her. Enjoy!

I'll definitely be getting more pics and videos to post for all who are interested in seeing. She did seem more lively yesterday. She is so funny right now. She really doesn't know running very well so she instead hops like a little bunny rabbit. I needed to mow my yard yesterday, but I decided not to as she thinks the weeds are toys and likes rolling around with them and I didn't want to take her "toys" away!! :P She is still trying to get used to the different surfaces her paws land on and she really doesn't like cement or my tile floors in the kitchen. We're trying to nudge her around the two surfaces so she won't feel so apprehensive about walking on them.

Edit: Thank you pindrop for the suggestion I read on youtube you made to another poster regarding this forum. I wouldn't have known there is an actual forum just for our little babies. Layla looks like such a mess. I love the couch zombies video you posted... VERY FUNNY!

She's so cute! Our Pegi was a gift for my daughters' sweet 16 birthday; they have to "share" her - she sleeps with one each night. God forbid I forget which one gets her (guess who does the last walk of the night?) and put her in the wrong room!!!!

Please make sure she gets plenty of puppy socialization as she's very young to be away from her littermates....

Again, she's a doll and welcome!

Linda & Pegi

Welcome! She is so adorable and so tiny. Don't worry about the sleeping as she is very young...she will build up her energy and then look out!!! Yes, we love pics and videos!

She will get plenty of socialization. We have a park in our neighborhood that a lot of people take their dogs to socialize with. My parents also have a miniature 8 year old schnauzer (I call her the dog I never had) that's very sociable towards other canines and my in-laws have two miniature poodles that love to play with other dogs. We're gonna visit my in-laws tomorrow. I'm waiting with baited breath to see how much funny things happen when she socializes with the two poodles.

She is very cute and so young to be away from mum though!

Most of the socialization will have to wait until she has had all her innoculations etc though.

I love the name!

As soon as she's around 10 or 11 weeks old and has had a couple of her parvo vaccinations, you should look into puppy socials at a nearby dog training facility. The one by me only allows young puppies and has trainers there to make sure they don't get too aggressive. It's a great way to safely socialize your pup with other pups so that she'll learn bite inhibition and to be good around other dogs. Much safer than a dog park for a younger pup - if you can find one.

She is a cutie!

Cheers,

Tami

Wow, Kaylie is so innocently sweet looking .... don't let that fool ya! :P She looks so proud. She will be great fun for years to come. Thanks for sharing and keep us informed on your little sweetie.

She's sweet for sure, but man can she nip! My wife got nipped last night and I guess she's trying to figure how what to bite and how hard she is capable of biting. I have a high threshold for pain so it doesn't bother me like it does my daughter and wife, but it's still funny watching her go from a dead stop and relaxed to trying to pounce on you or a toy like a cat would! It's almost schizophrenic looking. She does sort of have her days and nights mixed up and wants to play when we are all trying to go to sleep. Pretty sad that it's technically not even my dog (it's my daughters, thus the granddad tag) but I still start missing her as soon as I leave the house. It's really tragic.

She is adorable!!

I am a Grandma and my husband Grandpa of Napoleon, he was purchased by our son at 12 weeks and that wa sit, brought him home and he has been ours sice would not trade him for the world he has brought so much joy to our lives.

all I have to do is say, Grandpa is home!! and all the bells and whistles go off

  Welcome to the forum, I have not been visiting as often as before but it sure is a wonderful place to share anything you want about our fur babaies.

Well now my daughter has decided to slightly change the name of Kaylie. I wish she wouldn't do that. Anyway, we will now call her kylie instead of kaylie. :confused1: Well I guess it's not so bad. I can now caller her kylie the wily. Kinda has a nice ring to it.

She is a very young girl at six weeks and missing all that training from littermates and her mother.....so you will have to act as her Mum and teach what she can and can not bite. Lots of work ahead as well as fun!

Cairn Granddad I was searching my mind for the post you mentioned on Youtube. I now remember making that comment - and here I thought I was losing it. Glad you like the couch zoomies - get ready as your baby will be doing it quite soon if not already. Clear the runway.

As a side note - I would strongly suggest you not take your puppy to any dog park till she has had all her puppy shots. It can be a very dangerous place for a very young pup to pick up diseases that could be fatal.

Lucky you! Such a cute baby. We are first time cairn owners and my husband (retired k-9 officer) only had dogs who ate people. He knew I wanted a smaller pet so urged me to find a dog I'd like. After much research I decided on a carin. He tracked one down and bought "Luigi" for me. Luigi is suppose to be my dog but my husband has fallen head over heals for this little guy. His heart was stolen within hours of bringing him home. Have fun.
