Every morning I wipe Scruffys face to remove the 'sleepy dirt' from his eyes and have always tried to keep the tear stains to a minimum. He has such a light coloured face now and I wipe the stains really well. They aren't too bad, not as bad as my friends white Westie, I just wondered if anyone has found anything that really works?

I've lost track of her since she moved her blog (it just fell out of my daily rotation) but I do recall Dr Khuly had posted some thoughts about tear stains. Here's a recent post on the topic that includes a link to one of her previous posts (which had a cautionary post about a popular remedy).

Possible summary: probiotics maybe. Antibiotics, pass.

when doing research about my persian (and the shih tzu we're dog sitting) I read something that said having them drink distilled/filtered water will help cut down on the discharge in their eyes.

The only thing better than owning a Cairn is owning two!

Thanks for the link Brad, one of the posters suggested giving them distilled water to drink. The Angel Eyes is banned in Europe but I'm not sure I'd want to use something like that anyway. It isn't too much of a problem, he doesn't have a lot of staining but he is so light coloured that it is easily seen.
