Posted February 2, 201114 yr Is having two Cairns better than having one--you bet it is! Here are my two last night, bored to tears over the subzero temps that kept them inside all day. I call it the Kung Foo Cairn as little Bonnie makes up for her size by making gravity defying leaps at her big sister--tho I'm not sure they work out so well for her. Poor Bonnie, she wants to best her sister so badly but Sammi's size complicates the matter but it doesn't stop Bonnie from employing speed, evasion and reckless abandon to overcome the deficit! We get this one or two times a day around here and it is so entertaining--especially since no one loses their temper most of the time. Enjoy and if you are thinking about getting another Cairn--this should convince you. Sorry about the quality--it was almost bedtime and dark in the living room, but you can get the idea of what is going on.
February 2, 201114 yr That is SO cute and funny! Good times! The only thing better than owning a Cairn is owning two!
February 3, 201114 yr Great video! Bonnie is extremely fast and attacks without warning. I guess it's not just great for the two pups to have one another to play with and keep one another company - but for you as well - as you derive a lot of enjoyment from them. Seems to me it's a win win on both sides. I have decided to retire a little earlier than originally thought - could be this late June and if that is the case, I have five months to convince Oldfox that we need another one. So keep the videos coming as this may win him over that having a second dog is actually a good thing. Husband and dog missing ...25 cents reward for dog
February 3, 201114 yr Only another Cairn can bring out the full, zany potential of this breed! Great video. Love the table jumping and the speed.
February 3, 201114 yr Oh that is excellent. Two of my favorite things: the Sports Cairn zooms and some great Battle Cairn action. CAIRNTALK: Questions? Need help? → Support Forum Please do not use PMs for tech supportCRCTC: Columbia River Cairn Terrier Club
February 3, 201114 yr Great video, really captures the pleasure of owning two cairns. We uprights can sit back and watch them exercise Love the zoom-zooms!
February 3, 201114 yr Our two do the same thing only ours are much more vocal. Sounds like they are killing each other with all the growls and barking at our house. Great video and it sure shows how much fun two Cairns can be! Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
February 3, 201114 yr Our two do the same thing only ours are much more vocal. That's what I was amazed at -- how quietly these guys are playing. Little Bonnie reminds me of a "pro" wrestler who climbs up on the ropes and then slams her opponent. Very funny video -- thanks for sharing!
February 3, 201114 yr Author Unless one of the two hit a sensitive spot, they play soundlessly--maybe a low growl or two but these dogs are pretty quiet anyway. Of course they have to be quiet so they can hear the "Round Two" bell which is a sneeze. Once the sneezing starts the fighting ends--don't know why but that is the ritual.
February 3, 201114 yr Of course they have to be quiet so they can hear the "Round Two" bell which is a sneeze. Once the sneezing starts the fighting ends--don't know why but that is the ritual. So true - it must be out of respect for the other dog. My two will also stop their play for the sneeze. My two have to make growly noises and barking. Until we got Radar, Bailey hardly ever barked. Now - well let's just say he found his barker
February 3, 201114 yr I tell everyone that you should always have at least a pair. No one "gets" them like another dog. I love watching my two play, but man it's NOISY!! You're two play like little ladies. Although, my lady is the noisiest of my two. LOL
February 3, 201114 yr Mine have yet to start wrestling with each other like that. I think once Hollie has been here longer, they will. However, it's a beautiful sight to see them run in unison out the back door, leap off the back deck and bolt up the sidewalk to the fence so they can bark at the Golden on the other side of it. And man do they make a ruckus! The only thing better than owning a Cairn is owning two!
February 3, 201114 yr see them run in unison out the back door Mine remind me of the 3 stooges (well, 2 stooges) when they both try to get through the cat door in the morning.
February 3, 201114 yr We have a sliding back door. Every morning all 4 dogs gather in front of it like they're at the starting gate for a race. The husky goes one way, the shih tzu goes the other, and my terrors head straight for the back fence. This is actually why my husband nicknamed them our "2 little terrors," since they literally terrorize the Golden on the other side! The only thing better than owning a Cairn is owning two!
February 4, 201114 yr Love the video, Idaho. Our Ziggy takes the same approach as your Bonnie: Zig goes into zoom mode, running around the living room and building up speed to crash into Buffy and bowl her over. Ziggy's not even a Cairn but he's learned the proper attack/evasion technique. It's a riot to watch, isn't it?
February 4, 201114 yr Your Bonnie plays like my Gracie, except Gracie makes a loud "eeeennnnhhhhh, eeeeennnnnnnnhhh" sound. I think I would prefer the quite.

Ziggy's not even a Cairn but he's learned the proper attack/evasion technique. It's a riot to watch, isn't it? Oh boy is it ever! I have never figured out what Bonnie intends those leaps to accomplish--most of the time Sammi simply stuffs her. Maybe Bon feels like the dashing leap compensates for the size difference but she hasn't read Newton obviously--that "equal and opposite force" thing eludes her. In any case she doesn't let size intimidate her--she is always game for a tussle and she is often encouraged by Sammi, who will lay down and let Bonnie maul her about half the time. Some times I just cringe with how rough they get with each other--Sammi will drag Bonnie around by her face hair--will slam her down on the floor but Bonnie just keeps coming back at her--until they are both exhausted!
February 4, 201114 yr Great video! Its the neck holds that Sammy puts on Bonnie that amaze me... Bonnie is smart , she just plays possum for the few seconds and then away she goes again, hitting Sammie from above. February 4, 201114 yr Great fun to watch! Thanks for sharing.... really nice leap over the end table too!
February 7, 201114 yr If you can't have a Cairn sibling, it's good to have a little buddy like Tucker, the mini dachshund. This was a play date on a very rainy day. (Sorry I can't figure out how to embed.) http://videomail.shaw.ca/view/19708534430-1297045945-33470/197085/
February 7, 201114 yr Author How fun! Our neighbor has two Dachshunds and they are great buddies to our dogs and they sure do like to mix it up when they come over. I really like Tucker--that long haired look is so neat on these little dogs. Cairns play is great but it is also rough play--interesting to note how much these dogs act alike.
February 7, 201114 yr Oh so cute!!! This makes me want a companion cairn for Fearghus even more. Maybe next year when he's a little older. In the meantime bring on more videos like this ... I love to see them playing. Cheers, Tami
