Posted December 6, 201014 yr is there any thing that I should know about xmas and cairn,s espically around the tree
December 7, 201014 yr Ours have always left our trees alone but we have had an artificial tree for a number of years--back when we had cut trees we had no problem either.
December 7, 201014 yr Scotty chewed through my light so only half of em work now. They also were very fond of any kind of decoratons. So I have never put decorations on the bottom 1/3 of the tree. But I haven't put up a tree the last 2yrs so who knows what they do now. Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault, really." - Carlotta Monterey O'Neill
December 7, 201014 yr We used to have a real tree (which I must admit I prefer. Nothing beats than wonderful smell) however, our Scottie used to drink out of the tree stand (which made me nervous), but the reason we switched to artificial is because Jock figured; "Hey this is a pine tree and you know what I do outside againts pine trees ". Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
December 8, 201014 yr Chocolates as presents under the tree are a no no as they are poisonous to dogs and they can't resist them if they smell them. Veni, vidi, velcro - I came, I saw, I stuck around
December 11, 201014 yr Get a very soft and comfy tree skirt. Nap times are a must under the tree until the presents take over
December 11, 201014 yr Love, love, love that picture, Oliver's Mom! Our tree is a 4.5 foot tree and is on a table, in order to avoid any problems. I may try to do a regular sized tree next year, as Tanner's much improved, but I thought I'd give it another year. Becky & Tanner
December 12, 201014 yr Oh, that is precious. A perfect Christmas card! Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
December 12, 201014 yr I think that is a great picture as well--now you talk about presents under the tree!!!!
December 14, 201014 yr Wow- my Telly hates the Christmas tree and barks at it.. barks at the stand when we set it up.. barks at the tree as we bring it through the front door...barks at the boxes of ornaments that I bring out from storage.. barks again at the tree.. barks at everything tree-related. I'm convinced that the photo of the cairn sleeping peacefully is photoshopped!
December 14, 201014 yr I think that is a beautiful photo of the cairn under the Christmas tree! www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
December 14, 201014 yr This year Pegi has totally ignored the tree, except when she wants to look out the back window. However, there are NO presents under there; not going to tempt the Cairn Gods with this little devil!!! Linda & Pegi
December 14, 201014 yr Love the picture of Oliver - so cute! Bailey and Radar do not show much interest in our tree so far. And no, I have not put any gifts under the tree. Just a suggestion don't use tensel to decorate the tree, they could try eating it.
December 14, 201014 yr Oliver is so cute! Kirby is doing fine with the tree. Looked at it like "so you thought I would do something bad here?' But, I'm not tempting fate - no packages until Christmas Eve - he has a love of shredding paper (any kind of paper) that is not to be believed!
December 22, 201014 yr Anyone have a good solution to convince a stubborn dog not to drink out of the tree? He just realized it had water last year and remembered this year. We yell at him when we catch him and redirect to his dish, but clearly the extra flavor in the stand water is irresistible!
December 22, 201014 yr Saran wrap over the bowl works nicely- clear if you prefer, but the green might blend with your tree. Next year set the stand in a draw-top garbage bag and you can just pull the ties to tighten it over the stand and loosen it when you need to add water, then pull tight again. Tuck the ties inside the bag or up into the lower branches so someone doesn't discover a new pull toy )
December 22, 201014 yr We cut a disk shape out of hardware cloth (wire material) with a center hole for the trunk and a slit to allow us to fit it into place. We sort of bend the cover overhang to make a nice fit to the decorative base. The wire cover allows us to add water as needed but stops the dogs from lapping up leached pesticides or whatever from the tree water. CAIRNTALK: Questions? December 23, 201014 yr Great ideas for tree water hiding. I think next year I'll try bradl's mesh or Megsmom's bag idea. I think if I did the saran wrap *I'd* forget it was there! I can't go artificial! I just love the real tree smell, regardless of the effort it takes. I recently read that people get the fake ones to be "greener" but it actually takes 20 yrs of using a fake tree till it is more green than an annual live tree!
December 23, 201014 yr Great ideas for tree water hiding. I think next year I'll try bradl's mesh or Megsmom's bag idea. I think if I did the saran wrap *I'd* forget it was there! And you don't think it would be funny to watch him try to drink out of it and run into the saran wrap? Well, they also make pink saran wrap, maybe colored would remind you it's there? OK, so try some vinegar in the water, won't matter to the tree, but furbutts tend to really dislike that--and not just a dribble in the water--enough and he may even stay away from the tree due to the smell.
