Guest Sean
proper balance in Cairn heads (4 to 5, muzzle length to skull length) I take this rule of thumb to mean that the length of the muzzle ought to be shorter proportionally in comparison with the length of the skull. The grapevine has it that a US judge recently withheld points and/or ribbons from a class of bitches. He indicated that one bitch had a skull that was too small. Sorry, I don't have the exact details about the show or the class. Plus, it isn't my intention to name names. It's my hope that we can discuss how a balanced Cairn head should be examined / evaluated/ judged. Is judging like Justice Potter Stewart's quip about the definition of pornography? ["But I know it when I see it, and the motion picture involved in this case is not that." JACOBELLIS v. OHIO, 378 U.S. 184 (1964)] Anyone want to jump in and give a bit of information about the Blencathra/ideal head for a Cairn? Sean
toomanypaws
I think most of us posting here have "pet quality" cairns not "show", although most of us would say that they are definitely champions in our eyes. As far as the proper balance of the head, maybe this discussion should be on the Cairn Terrier Club, members only board. I just went and measured my 3 female cairn's to see if their muzzle is shorter proportionally in comparison with the length of their skull. Being they were asleep, I'm sure they wondered what the heck I was doing. Two of them have muzzles shorter in comparison w/ their skull and one of them doesn't. Does this mean I love that one any less? BTW two are spayed and the baby will be is a few months so I have no intention to breed them. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
