Posted September 24, 201014 yr Now that it's starting to get dark early in New England I am looking for some suggestions on safety strips for Pegi. I am thinking the velcro LED strips that I see on line. I have purchased a clip on blinking LED light for her collar, but think the strips may give us more visibility. I have also seen LED leashes, but I prefer the retractable one to pull the little devil in quickly when she gets into something. Anyone have a favorite brand, type or product for night walking? Thanks as always. Linda & Pegi
September 24, 201014 yr After having been hit by a car last year while walking Zekey, I've tried a few things to make us both safer. A white coat for me. A lantern flashlight that I hook to the leash handle with an extra collar, and swing it while I walk. Zekey has a parka with reflective strips on it (for cold weather). I've tried the little blinking heart that you connect to his collar, but honestly, it falls to one side or another, making it useless half the time. I'd like to get something like those light stick things that you can wear around your neck, to put on his. And now Gavin's! I'll have to look for the LED leashes and strips. I gave up using the flexi lead at night -- the driver saw my dog but the leash was pretty much invisible. Look for a flexi lead tape that has a reflective strip built in.
September 24, 201014 yr I have two of these battery run blinking LED red safety lights, they clip on and come with a arm belt. I always but one one when i'm walking the dogs at night. It can be seen a far distance as my husband was comming home one night and drove to the end of the street to see if it was me since he could see the rapid blinking light. It also has like 8 settings from constant on to fast blink. I buy them at the flea market for $5.00 each, amazon Edited September 24, 201014 yr by Tracy A. September 25, 201014 yr Lighted, flashing dog collars: Probably going to try out this one next. http://www.polybrite.com/Pets/Collars.html Have one of these, works very well on a black cairn at night, working behind dense bushes--collar does not like water! 2yrs later, still works funky after that dunk in the waterbowl (on the dog)! Guess the problem could be worse--it turns on unexpectedly, but doesn't turn off unexpectedly. Really like the collar, but just not water-resistant enough. http://visiglo.com/about-Visiglo-lighted-dog-collar.html Collars and Leashes; if you're a harness user, might be fun to check out the pins and clip them on the harness straps--you can do Halloween theme lights! http://www.flashingblinkylights.com/lightedpetproducts-c-114_105.html?osCsid=0vaa8sihoofnqt118qq5o5m2g4 You can check ebay for lighted dog collars. I also tried 'dog safety lights' thinking I'd find some of the collar clip-on lights, I got an assortment of everything pet-related lighted. I've found the auto-sensor pet lights, in the heart & bone shape, are great for me; just pin them on my backside, and we're lit from both sides then! They don't hold up well on dog collars, though, because the plastic housing where the ring/clip goes through breaks easily. I have a couple that are broken & stuck on with velcro on their backs-- internals survive very well. (Auto-sensing means they turn on in dim light and/or with any movement after dark; they do have an off switch, but the auto-sensing works very well.)
