CTCA membership requirements?

Pam Vojtas

Recommended Posts

I am interested in becoming a member of CTCA and am hoping that someone could answer a question about the sponsorship for me.

I have several good friends that are members that I have known for more than the required time period and would be happy to sponsor me, but none of them are geographically close and have never been to my home (we know each other through the Cairn Rescue group I volunteer for).

I've seen advice to go to local shows to meet other Cairn owners, but have now been to 4 conformation shows in the South Florida area over the last year, where there was a whopping ZERO cairns entered! I am very active in agility, and with the exception of one Cairn who is a snowbird, I have never seen another Cairn run agility, obedience or even earthdog here either!

Will this locale/home visit requirement be a deal breaker for membership?

Thanks,

Disclaimer: I'm not speaking for the membership committee.

My sense is that these sorts of requirement are usually added for a reason so my suspicion (I don't actually know) is that it probably is a fairly hard requirement.

If it were me, I'd lob an inquiry to the corresponding secretary with a request to forward it on to the appropriate membership contact.

In the meantime, I might strike up a correspondence with a few of the nearest listed breeder referral contacts - even just a request to figure out which shows are likely to have a Cairn entry.

If you're handy with the computer you can also usually use the show superintendent's website to look up the "judging schedule" for upcoming shows - that will include the entry count by breed for each day (as well as their ring time) so you can save a trip to a Cairnless show. You can poke around a site like infodog.com to get a sense of how that works. You can also use that site or the AKC event search page to locate upcoming shows.

Hope that helps a little.

Like Brad, I can't say for sure, but I believe I heard at one time that you could show pictures of the area where the dogs live and that was considered acceptable.
