Ah the dogs love summertime--it is down to the river for lazy late afternoons in the the water! Such fun.

The girls duke it out for a stick!

Love the bad hair look! Pegi recently took her first jump into our pool and had the same problem!

Very cute pictures!! They certainly enjoy the water. I also love the bad hair day one! Soo cute. I have to admit that everytime there are water pictures posted I get a little green with envy, Oliver HATES water but I would love to take him out in it. Oh well. I'll just live vicariously through all of the lucky one's here :) Keep the pic's coming!!

Looks like such fun!!! Can't believe they will go under water WOW! mine does not like to get her head wet. Good for them to be so brave, and what a great way to cool off.

Thanks guys! Sammi loves rocks--too much, her canine teeth are now dull from handling and gnawing on them! She feels around under the water with her paws, much like a raccoon, locates them and pries them loose and then ducks her head under and grabs them. Just fun to see her come up with all that long hair wet plastered against her face.

Some Cairns really don't like water but I think most do--once they get used to it. Bonnie was quite hesitant to get fully immersed but finally gave it a try and now is quite adventuresome--she goes off like a little trooper after the big dog and is actually a pretty good swimmer.

If your dog won't swim, take it to a shallow part of a lake and wade in and see if it will follow you--once these Cairns get over their fear of water they are quite the water dogs--Sammi hits the water every bit as hard as the Labs I used to have did. She just slams it.

Islander that is so neat!! I love that little squeal just before the leap--ours do that. Your dog is a great swimmer, he gets right thru the water. Cairns are such neat dogs--they are the "little black party dress" of the dog world--you can wear them everywhere and always be in style and look good too.

Great photos! Today we discovered that Buffy and Ziggy are both great swimmers too! We've had loads of rain here (Chicagoland) and a section of the dog park was flooded. Despite protests from DH, I led the dogs toward the water where several big dogs were having a great time. They both plunged in and started swimming around like they had been doing it all their lives! I waded in with them to check the depth - it was only just past my knees in the deepest area, but plenty deep for a Cairn and a Silky Tzu to go for a dip. They spent 45 minutes or so swimming, chasing balls in the water and playing with the big dogs. We had a hard time getting them out so they could dry off a bit for the car ride home. It was a great day to be a terrier here! B)

All that swimming is awesome exercise, too. Easier on the joints than walking on pavement.

Well, we are leaving on a road trip tomorrow...hope to find some swimming holes along the way.

Enjoy summertime everyone!

Really fun to see them in the water! Boy they love the water and they love having each other to play with. Those pictures make all of us want to take a day off for some fun with our little buddies. Dempsy loves his pool, but so far is not real fond of the lake - this gives us something to shoot for - someday maybe, just maybe, I will get a picture of Dempsy in something other than his water bowl. :) Thanks for sharing!!

Great pictures and videos! I love to see these guys enjoying life to the fullest. Bailey doesn't go near the water so far and Radar does show some interest with the sprinkler. I guess I should do as suggested and take them to a pond or river and see what happens. Love Sammi's bad hair day!!

Great pictures...looks like a ton of fun! Tanner is not so fond of water yet, but we're (slowly) working towards getting him to at least like it a little bit.

LOL! Matter of fact she DOES look like a strange beast in that picture! It wouldn't bother her bit--my Sammi is such a tomboy, not a prissy bone in her body. She does have a really sweet disposition tho--has to have one to put up with the continual abuse of her little companion that is one of those "Anything you can do, I can do better!" types.

Love all the pictures! We have no water around here except the Saskatchewan River (which has a really strong current.)so getting Jocks feet even damp in a large tub is a major issue! It just looks like so much fun :P

What awesome pics! Wish we had a river near us, or a lake, or a puddle for that matter. The desert is too damn dry!

When we were in the Phoenix area we stayed at Lake Pleasant and the dogs loved it and that was in February! Nice area for dogs.

Heheh I took WallE to Centre Island (Lake Ontario, Toronto) and we went to the beach for the first time. He was very reluctant to get in the water at first, but both DH and I went in the water and he sort of whimpered at us as if he wanted to come, then hed just jump in! At first he just sort of splashed around but when he got the hang of it, he was really good!! Then recently we went camping and they had another beach there, but there was a lot of waves that really freaked him out at first. DH and I took him out past the waves and he swam some more! (Until he saw the shore and beelined for it, heheh) I think with more practice, hell get used to it and grow to love it even more!

On a Side note, its wallE's birthday on Saturday! He turns 1!!
