Sassy has daily been trying to sneak up on rabbits (while on leash of course). She gets close and then just charges in. She has not caught any because I won't let her get that far.

Just yesterday and then again today, I thought she didn't see a rabbit that was close by and walked away from the rabbit. By the way the rabbit was just sitting there chewing grass. Well she has gotten clever, what she is doing is arcing around and coming at them from the front. I think she has figured out from her previous experiences that they always take off in the direction that their head is pointing and that she will have a better chance of actually catching them if she comes at them from the front.

She caught me off guard tonight as I almost missed the move, she was a tooth length away from having dinner on the green.

Knowing Sassy she will get one one of these times.

I am so proud of her intelligence. She is definitely smarter than a fifth grader.

My sister has a grayhound that has caught (and destroyed) 3 rabbits this summer; kind of ugly if they do get them! I'm just hoping Pegi doesn't get a skunk...

Nena does the same stalker crawl when she see a rabbit. I also watch her carefully. Last spring there were new born bunnies living in my garden island and she always wanted to get in there. Once she did and even on a leach she grabbed one before I could pull back and killed it. I felt awkful, cairns are so fast that before I knew it she had one. I told her never again!!!!!!

Sassy is a smart one!! Squirrels and bunnies are Oliver's favorite to chase and bark very loudly at. I love the stalker walk that they do when they see one!! I think it's soo cute that they continue to stalk while the whole time there is a very tall upright next to them that is sticking out like a sore thumb to the bunny!! :D

 I guess our Cairns think we're invisible to the wildlife.

Zekey seems to ignore wildlife on our walks. I'll see a rabbit up ahead on the path and point it out to him, but he never seems to catch on until the rabbit moves.

And deer -- you think he'd be able to see a big deer on the path!! Maybe he's near sighted? The only thing he chases after are the squirrels in our yard -- they scrabble over the fence as quick as they can!

And now a short video of Sassy doing her thing.

Sorry about the shaky camera work, but it's kind of difficult holding a leash with Sassy pulling and holding an iPhone which isn't to handholding friendly with one hand.

I did pull her back at the last second and the rabbit did escape. Notice how she plays "I'm just not that into you" until the last moment.

Sassy is very clever the way she walks ahead then goes in for the kill. Good catch!

Clever girl, and very patient!! She is soo quite about it too. Oliver immediately begins growling and barking up a storm, and sometimes there isn't even anything hiding in the bushes :D I am shocked that the bunny didn't take off running as soon as it saw Sassy.
