Dempsy's Mom
OK, ... just a quick release. None of us have time anymore for anything - so after the rain and now having a nice cool sun shiny morning I have time to give the wood pillars outside the house a quick paint job. Digger, the lab in relaxing on the lawn, Dempsy is tied with a nice long rope so he can do a little romping about. One pillar into it the cat decides to stroll by, Dempsy runs after it, the paint lid is now stuck to Dempsy's foot, it fell off after he hit the cement pad, upside down of course and now I have white dog prints on the cement patio wherever the cat ran. I retrieved a bucket with hot soapy water and have spent the last half an hour brushing out the paint. Now it's time to find something to eat. I will finish my painting this afternoon. Dempsy has a shorter rope and is now enjoying a chew bone. Jim says, "That dog can do anything and get away with it!" He's right. Marty & Sherry
Cairns have an excellent built in trouble radar. If it's around they can find it!

Dempsy's Mom
There I am done painting. Just had to make a note to you all. I only had 4 pillars to paint and as I was painting one on them I realized why this project even made my summer To Do list. When I brought Dempsy home last fall I was very naive to Cairns. I tied him up on one of the post. I only left him there maybe a half an hour and when I came to get him he had chewed up the pillar. There was no paint left. Nothing but raw wood. I quickly primed it hoping that Jim wouldn't notice, but he did. He is a pretty good sport. So while Dempsy hisself is low maintenance, I have spent considerable amount of time maintaining the property. I am learning. josie&holly
Yes, having a Cairn means you have more things to do - like your painting or replacing towels that someone has chewed up whilst you are out. I got this wonderful picture in my mind when I read your story and it made me laugh!! www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
hheldorfer
I'm picturing a cartoon: Cairn chomping on the base of the pillar like a beaver and you on a ladder painting the top. The pillar gives way and the roof collapses, burying you under rubble and causing white paint to fly everywhere. Your head comes poking out of the destruction and you are licked enthusiastically by the Lab and the cat, while the Cairn (now looking like a Westie), slinks away.
