Brianne_Kathrine
My dad came by to visit me today and we took Benny for a walk at the State Park. Sally was still not looking 100% so I decided to leave her at home. Benny thinks he is a sled dog. I put his harness on him and he goes into pulling mode. So my dad, thinking about how funny it is when Benny goes into pulling mode decided to attach Benny's leash to a very heavy log. Well Benny the sled dog took a few seconds to get his footing and then he took off running while pulling this log behind him. Seriously, this log was HEAVY and it should have slowed him down and it did not slow him down one bit. We took it off after a minute or two, but it was tempting to leave the log tied to his leash...pobably would have wore the guy out. I wish I had been able to video tape it. Benny was hauling it down the trail with a very big leg tied to his leash. To make it even better...Benny gets very animated and local when he is excited and so he was making all sorts of 'happy' noises as he ran down the trail. It was quite the site. The world revolves around Benny and Sally...or so they think!
Marty & Sherry
Pound for pound I doubt there is a stronger dog than a Cairn. I am big but if I don't watch it these little guys can catch me off balance & darn near pull me over!
hheldorfer
Hmmmmmmmmm . . . There has to be a useful application for Benny's abilities. Maybe pulling the trash out to the curb?? Yep, they sure are strong little guys!
Brianne_Kathrine
People who are not familar with Cairn Terriers have no idea of just how strong these little creatures really are. I only weight 120 pounds, and Benny has nearly pulled me over before. My friends just see "cute little dog" and are always blown away by the power, strength, and stamina of Benny. After a 4 mile walk in the state park, Sally is worn out...Benny is ready for another 4 miles. But yes, how can Benny's talents be put to good use? hheldorfer
Buffy, our Cairn, only outweighs Ziggy by a pound or two but she has the clear advantage when they wrestle. Ziggy will pounce on her with all his might and Buffy responds by flipping him on his back with hardly any effort at all. She has to go to the park and play with the big dogs to get any real competition, and even then she can out-wrestle many of them. People are always concerned that their big dogs will hurt "sweet little Buffy". Boy, do they get a surprise!
Brianne_Kathrine
There is a yellow lab in my neighborhood named Bailey. Benny and Sally love to play with Bailey. When Bailey's owners first moved in they were always concerned that Bailey would hut my dogs. After Benny managed to flip Bailey on her back...her owners stopped being so worried about her hurting my dogs. (Although now I think they are concerned about what my two might do to Bailey!)
