Cairn Land Sailing- possible new sport

So last Saturday my dear husband fell in the garage and hit the top of his foot on a 2" steel snowblade for the 1953 Ford 8N tractor. He had a compound facture of his big toe and pretty much banged the heck out of the rest of the toes and top of his foot.

Thankfully our follow up visit with the specialist went well and the ER doctor reset the bones well, so he won't need surgery.

He's been off work for a week now and I picked up him a wheelchair last weekend. I suggested that he walk the dogs down the driveway using the wheelchair... never expecting that he would really walk the dogs....around the neighborhood.

He is calling this 'Cairn Land Sailing' I would imagine that you would get a handicap point if a squirrel runs across the road.

And yes the dogs are pulling him..LOL.. of course he gets pulled toward what they want...mailboxes...yards.. but he is getting better, he hardly zig zags now...LOL

Sorry for your husband's injury (sounds VERY painful!), but land-sailing HAS to lift his spirits! I bet the doggies love it, too!

Looks like those 2 little yaks like their job. Sorry about your DH's accident. Does he have brakes on that chariot? If they spot a squirrel he might set a new land speed record! :D

Neat pictures--I'll bet the dogs love it--no resistance when they walk but I do wonder about how you steer those things?????

Well, he had been keeping his good foot on the ground to help steer and slow down- he does have two wheel brakes on each wheel...

I was trying the wheel chair out in the garage earlier today, and it's suprisingly easy to steer and turn around... just a little harder if you are only using one arm.

Nikki, I think you'd be fine- you have one good foot to act as an emergency brake too! I got the wheelchair at Harbor Freight Tools of all places it was with the shop stools best 139.00 i've spent... i knew if I didn't find a way for him to take the dogs out without the risk of them pulling him off his good foot...i'd have pee all over the house. ;)

Tracy... I get my screw out on April 30th. I will be able to start putting partial weight on my leg so...I probably won't need a wheel chair now...

lol I can only image the mayhem Scotty would cause... I could see me in the wheelchair and he would see a squirrel or something else he wanted to chase and pull...I d probably come out the chair... gives me pain just thinking about it lol

Nikki, Glad to hear that you will be finally able to get home to your crew. I can't imagine being away so long...it must have been very difficult.
