Abby and McDuffy
My boy Duffy absolutely LOVES empty water bottles. Actually, it's not only water bottles...it's empty pop bottles, empty juice bottles, empty milk jugs-any empty liquid container. He'll chase a bottle around on the floor for hours, pawing on it so it goes scooting away. It's a hilarious sight, albeit a loud one! It's funny because he'd rather play with an empty bottle than with any of the toys I've purchased for him. In true Cairn fashion the stubborn little guy of course doesn't want to use anything that I think he would like! It's rather like , except multiplied by around 500 because he's no little puppy. Aurora5000
Chase likes empty water bottles. We take off the paper and lid, then flatten it a bit and he destroys it from there. He chews it and loves the noise it makes when he bites into it. You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it's a little thing, do something for others - something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it. -Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965) Chase and Gus video Youtube- Best of Chase and Gus Cairn Terrierists It's because cats simply can't be trusted for heavy lifting & dirty work required in the war on terrior. Hawkeye
I tried throwing one on the floor for Bailey and he gave me a confused look as if to say "what's with you". So I guess he's not a fan of the bottles. I use to have a cairn that went crazy for the soda bottles. It was better than any toy. Of course, she use to love being sprayed by the garden hose too. lindasue
Pegi also loves any kind of plastic bottles. I let her have them for about 20 minutes, then they are destroyed. However, make sure you remove paper, top and especially the O ring that's left on the neck after the top is gone. Found her chewing on one the other day. She also likes them much more than the many toys she has...... Linda & Pegi
Abby and McDuffy
Hahahaha, that's the look Duffy gives me when I throw one of his toys- the "what exactly am I supposed to do with this?" expresion. As for hoses, he loves the hose when it's on the ground, but as soon as I pick it up he disappears. I give him the two-liter pop bottles so his mouth is too small to destroy them...or at least for now. We'll see how long it lasts.
BeeBladen
OMG, I JUST got Gretsch a new toy that he absolutely loves, as I'm sure Duffy would also. Its by "Fat Cat Inc." Its a long canvas "cat-er-pillar" (haha) that you put an empty water bottle inside and they crunch it without the risk of plastic ingestion. It has a double velcro on the one end so they CANT get that bottle out. (gretsch has fun trying though!) Its bright green and canvas so it holds up well while still having that "crunch" that they love so much. I think he munched on it for a few hours straight last night, going to have to replace the bottle soon! We got it at Petco, what's funny is that they also make the crazy potent catnip for my cat! Abby and McDuffy
That sounds brilliant-I'll definitely have to remember to look into it when I get home.
carolinaila09
paisley loves empty water bottles as well. she doesnt like to chew them up (thank goodness) but of course she never gets one by herself. it is funny to see them push it around! she gets so confused as to why it runs away so much faster than her other toys! **Ila and Paisley**
kjwarnold
Yep, Kirby is into water bottles and he doesn't care if they're empty or not. It's fun to see the look on his face when he punctures a full one and it sprays him! He really kills it then. Nena
Nena loves them too. I like the idea of a canvas holder will have to look for that. I aways watch her with those because she can destroy one in no time at all. She love the gallon water jugs she will grab the handle in her mouth and run around. But she loves her balls and toys just as much. cairn terriers leave pawprints on our lives
Zekey's Mom
Zekey likes them too. I got him a similar toy that looks like a flat, unstuffed animal that closes with velcro and holds a water bottle. He worked at it for hours, and chewed straight through the "fur", where the maker's tag was sewn on! I'll have to look for one that's made of canvas - that should hold up a lot better! biochembelle
A couple of years ago, my mom started giving empty water bottles to her Chiahuahua/Lhasa apso mix who likes to take the caps off and then she's done with them. No eating the cap, just removing it. So we tried it with Kenna. Well, Kenna devours them with true Cairn dedication and destruction. In fact, when I threw down a Aquafina bottle, my parents said "Oh, they can't get the caps off those. They're too tight." In about a minute, Kenna had the cap off. They stood corrected. I watch her carefully, because the "jaws of life" can rip the bottles into shreds, but fortunately she has no interest in swallowing them. I'm gonna have to try giving her one with water still in it and see what happens. That sounds hilarious.
hheldorfer
I'll have to try the water bottle thing with Buffy and see what she does. She certainly likes to drink from them. When we're at the dog park I'll try to pour some water from a bottle into a dish for her, but she'd prefer to lap it up as it's pouring out of the bottle. Once it's in the dish, she's not interested. Nikki
Scotty loves water bottles... my aunt gave me this toy for him she bought it at petsmart that you can fit water bottles into it it. It protects the water bottle from getting ripped up. It's yellow I think it has a duck face... Scotty seems to like it Scotty is crazy about water bottles... Dogs' lives are too short. Abby and McDuffy
Well, it sounds like the love for water bottles isn't specific to my Cairn, that's for sure!
DawnandTuk-tuk
Tuk loves water/soda bottles too. I have a special jar opener which I use to put the lids on really tight so he works hard at getting those off (then I throw them away). Then he just has loads of fun crunching the plastic. He seems to enjoy it best when the kids are sleeping.
Nikki
sometimes we eat on tv trays... right now my dinner table has a computer that my dh is building or something i dunno what he is doing with that. But anyways I found out you can not put water bottles on the ground at all {sometimes i put my water bottle on the ground if their is no room on the tv tray} or anything that looks like a water bottle. B/c little man will think its his and take it. lol He has tried to drag a 2 liter of coke and it full too. I could not stop laughing. He could be dead a sleep and i make the crinkle sound from a water bottle he will jump up. Dogs' lives are too short. cupcake
Lucy also loves plastic bottles more so than ALL her balls, she will carry them in her mouth whilst out on her walks if she finds one,but when we go to the local park she seems bewildered by all the bottles left laying around and dosn't know which one to go fetch
LizzyA2
Spaz love waterbottles, unfortunately they don't always happen to be empty when he gets ahold of them. i mistakenly left a half bottle of lemonade on my nightstand one day when i went to work, & came home to a very chewed up empty bottle on my bed, & my blankets soaked in lemonade >_<
Kathryn
We don't buy plastic bottled water for environmental reasons, but Allie loves to play with the bottles. You can imagine my chagrin when I have to explain this to folks at meetings when I leave with my empty bottle rather than toss it in the trash. jodi0553
Currey used to play with empty bottles and cans. Our living room floor always had empty diet coke cans and gatorade bottles - if anyone would drop by they would have thought we were terrible slobs! He grew out of those toys as he got older though...too bad, since they just were a perfect price! Just wanted to add a shout out for Fat Cat Toys! That caterpillar/water bottle toy sounds great! They are so cleverly cute and wonderfully indestructible. We bought "dirty rotten kitty" over 6 months ago and Currey has a daily tug session and no matter how hard he pulls, he hasn't even come close to ripping a seam! I love it!
