Sam I Am
This morning my DH was upstairs in our house, when he heard Jock flying around the kitchen with the noise of another creature squeaking! For days Jock has been sitting by the fireplace (which we have partially boarded up to keep the cold out) and we have checked and rechecked and found nothing . We just assumed it was Jock being Jock - we should pay more attention next time! A squirrel came down the chimney and got into the house! Jock went nuts being the for ever watchfull Cairn terrier that he is, and chased the little critter back up the chimney. At least that Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie

tlwtheq
Good show Jock! Why won't a squirrel come down our chimney? That would be PARTY TIME! Sweet Pea and the Boys Max and Nelly
Nena
Thank goodness Jock chased that squirrel back up the chimney. That would be the last thing I would want running around the house. Nena only needs to see one outside and she is off running and barking around the house. cairn terriers leave pawprints on our lives
Autumn & Lola
To see a squirrel here is VERY rare (not like my home of Pennsylvania, where they are everywhere!). I'd love to see what Molly would do if she saw one! Good going Jock!

Zekey's Mom
Jock must have thought he won the lottery -- finally, a squirrel to play with IN the house! Just be glad you weren't actually USING the fireplace -- that could have been a scorcher!
Marty & Sherry
Go Jock! I hope he at least got some of the critters tail hair for his trouble. If you had 2 or 3 Terrierists there would have been no escape for said critter. What little of your house that remained intact would have been a bloody mess though. It will probably be months before his attention leaves the fireplace now!
kjwarnold
Way to go, Jock! I bet he's still staring at the fireplace, waiting for it to come back down!!! Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Sam I Am
He is!!! Cairns really suffer from a case of Obsessive compulsive disorder.. but in the big picture when you have been breed to sit by a hole or go down it what's the difference in going up a chimney Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
Idaho Cairns
Cairns--always vigilant, always smart, getting camoed up to play "Where's Waldo?" with the squirrel.
Sam I Am
Love the picture Idaho! Our resident squirrel I think has suicide tendencies...he is always teasing Jock outside but I dont think he was prepared for the shock of being in the house with his arch nemesis Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France Adventures with Sam &Rosie
hheldorfer
Arf! Buffy here. Jock, you are SO lucky! We don't have a fireplace so I have to wait until I'm outside to chase squirrels! Sounds like great indoor entertainment!

Hagar
There are a lot of squirrels in my area too, but fortunately they haven't gotten into the house (yet!). I did have a bat get in awhile back, but that's another story. I swear the squirrels deliberately taunt Renny on walks and in the back yard. On walks they will stay just out of reach on a tree or run right in front of us. In the yard they will sit in a tree or on the roof and chatter at him which drives Renny into a frenzy. Sometimes they will run across the yard from one tree to another with Renny in hot persuit. He has never caught one, but has come Oh so close. It ain't gonna be pretty if he ever catches one. hheldorfer
Buffy has managed to bite a few tail hairs off the squirrels in our yard but has never actually caught one, thanks to the fact that we stopped her in time. She doesn't hold a candle to my previous dog, though, a terrier-chihuahua mix who had the strongest prey drive I've ever seen in a small dog. During her younger years she killed two squirrels (that I know of) and innumerable rabbits. She was so fast and stealthy that it would happen in an instant; I'd just hear a quick jingle of the tags on her collar and by the time I turned around to see what was going on she'd have a dead critter in her jaws. Not a pretty sight but there wasn't a darned thing I could do about it.
