Fun trip to the vets

Took the girls to the vet for their annual check up/shots this afternoon. They jumped out of the car happily and sniffed around outside, then.......I opened the door for them to go in. NO WAY!! They both pulled back and refused to come in  I had to pick Susie up and drag Roxy through the door, then try to get them to walk with me. They just dug their heels in and wouldn't budge, much to the amusement of everyone there. Trying to get them on the scales was just as entertaining for all (except me).

Now I always carry treats in my pocket whenever I take them anywhere... but today I didn't (bad mistake). I ended up grabbing a packet off the shelf and got them distracted with sits etc while we waited our turn. They weren't too bad in the exam room, once I slid them across the floor inside.

I don't know what has brought this on, when we where there last year they weren't this bad and nothing happened during that visit.

Oh well life is never dull.

Holly will do that refusing to move or pulling back - someone observing this said gosh, for a little dog she can't half be stubborn!

[Holly has never done this at Vets, but has done it when I take her to see a friend or quite often on walks if she does not want to go the way I do!]

sounds like a normal visit to the vet for Nena and me. She hates the experience. I am sure she relates past surgery, shots, butt examine, etc.

Can't blame them.

I can't explain it, but when I take Renny to the vet, he will literally drag me from the car into the office.

The fun part is trying to get him to stand still on the scale for his weight check. On our vet visit last month, even with 2 of us at the scale, he snuck between us and took a "tour" of the clinic.

He's actually pretty good with the vet, but when the vet is finished, he offers Renny a treat. Renny will not take a treat from the vet.

He also drags me into the groomers. Maybe I need to take him in the car more often.

Murphy, our Cairn, is just the opposite. He thinks everyone at the vet's office is his best friend!! He runs in and immediately starts greeting all the workers and tries to barge into the exam rooms. He is the only Cairn in their practice, and they really dote on him.

My little Min Pin, Ralphie, was just like your pups. He would park his rear end firmly on the ground and make me drag or carry him in. It was hilarious! :)

Can't say I've ever had that kind of experience...I guess Tanner's like Renny & Murphy...he has never shown any resistence to going to the vet. He drags me up the walk & then wiggles with excitement the whole time. As soon as we get in, the assistants take him away from me to play with him & love on him & he thinks it's great. During the actual vet visit, he, of course, doesn't particularly enjoy the examination, but, ultimately, they are PEOPLE! And they are touching him & paying attention to him, so, as far as he is concerned, it's all good.

Buckley trots in like he owns the place. Everytime someone walks by, he wags his tail and expects to greeted. Gracie on the other hand, will walk in and drop to the floor once she gets throught the door.

haha, sounds familiar!!! At our old vet's office I just gave up and hauled him into the office in a crate like a cat! Fortunately after we moved he doesn't necessarily think the vet is evil, just the old one. Regardless, I don't even bother with *dog* treats in the pocket for the vet...I step it up to *human* treats! I've found that goldfish crackers are a tantalizing treat to get him to do anything the vet asks!

BetsyNoodle, Paisley is the only cairn in the office here too. They LOOOVE her and she loves them back just as much! she is being boarded while we are on a trip over new years and they cant wait to get her there! she probably just gets to run around and play all day! paisley only associates the vet with easy food...she gets treats without having to work for them!

Bailey is fine at the vet's office and the staff loves to see him, but Casey (our westie) is another story. The minute we step foot in the place she starts her moaning and does not stop until we leave. She's fine in the office, although she does put the brakes on when we go into the exam room. She allows the vet to do all the nasty stuff, but just constantly moans. Hence her nickname...Mona
