Cairns & Christmas Trees

Last year was Tanner's first Christmas with us & because he was only 5 months old, I didn't even try to fight it...I just put up a 4ft. tree on top of something so he couldn't get to it at all. In the past, however, we've always put up a 6ft. tree.

Tanner's still in the stage of 'everything new has to go through a taste test' (do they ever grow out of that?!) & it would be something entirely new & on his floor level, which would induce ferocious barking at this intruder into his space. So I'm thinking, this year, we're probably going to have to go the 4ft. route again, to be safe. Just curious to see if anyone has any input as to how many years it will be before we can have a full sized tree again? I'm not sure I mind the smaller tree...it's at least quicker to put up & take down, but just wondering....

Small Silver fake tree on a table... well out of reach of any four legged household members... other use Xpens to keep them away... You always have an issue with a live or fake tree in your home confusing an anmimal as to if its ok to pee on it or not.... better to keep temptation away... via expen or closed door...

the first year....scotty chewed through the xmas lights....so now only half of them work now lucky for him it wasn't plugged in

they don't really mess with the tree any more but I also don't put any ornaments on the very bottom part of the tree either...lol

Had a good chuckle reading this post. I have always had a real Xmas tree in the house until Jock decided that if a pine tree out in the garden can be peed on whats the problem with the fresh nice smelling pine in the house! Jock would rather burst a bladder normally than ever mess in the house but for some reason that nice pine odor was just to alluring! So now we have a fake one ( :crybaby: ) no nice pine smell but also no un-nice pee smells!

Ok so this is funny! Maybe it's because we don't have pine trees in the desert, but Tuk-tuk does not mess with the tree or the presents! I put up a live tree every year. We've had trouble with our cats than Tuk! I don't put bulbs that I care about down low, but I have the kids decorate that half of the tree and haven't given them the truly breakable ones in years past anyway. I am ever so grateful for this twist of fate!

my tree is fake {I have never liked the idea of cutting a tree just to put decorations on it for a month} and it already has lights on it.

the picture is before Scotty decided to chew through lights...but as you can see there are no decorations on the bottom portion of the tree LOL

Angel and Scotty liked trying to get the christmas balls. But that was only the first year and havent done it since...:D

Puddlesmama - if that isn't the cutest photo ever!

For the past few years, we've just put up a small table top tree. Over the years, I've collected some very beautiful (some rather pricy) ornaments. I can just picture Molly (this is her first Christmas with us)taking a liking to some of these, so it's a table top tree again this year.

After hearing crunching and investigating the source I found Rudi munching through some sparkly plastic star ornaments. I backed the entire 6 foot decorated tree into a corner and surrounded it with half of an x-pen (transportable dog pen/fence). The following year that's where I stood the tree before I started decorating!

Thanks everyone...sounds like the 4ft. tree is going to be the best bet. I hadn't even thought abt. him marking the taller one...and he would, too!

This is the first year Sparky and Scout have seen a big Christmas tree. We have a 6.5 foot tree, and we put it up a couple days ago. So far Sparky has sniffed it a little, but hasn't shown too much interest. Scout hasn't even looked at it. I'm hoping it stays that way. Maybe once I put gifts under the tree they might be more interested and more likely to cause trouble. If that's the case, I might put an X-Pen around it, but only if I have to.

Last year was Bailey's first Christmas with us and I have to say he did fine with out 6' fake tree. I don't know if it would have been different if it was a real tree, but he had no interest in the lights or presents. Of course Casey doesn't bother with the tree either. To solve the problem of having the aroma of pine trees, I buy scented candles

WOOF! Eli, here.

The 6 foot fake tree hold no great attraction to me but I am certain that the Alpha B placed that quilted, silky skirt under it just for me. I have been caught rolling around on it a few times but there was no collateral damage. I must be more sneaky next time.

The Alpha B would kill me if I messed with that stupid fake tree. It's all decorated with vintage ornaments from the forties. Big deal. Now a tree decorated with dog biscuits, that would be cool!

Woof!

My Kimmy is horrible with Christmas trees. Last year she was a puppy and she tried to chew the skirt, chew the presents, eat the pine needles from the tree, and drink the water. Benny, on the other hand, is and has always been a perfect angel (or maybe just too lazy to care) in regards to Christmas trees. He just ignores them. It all depends on the dog I suppose.
