Found a great harness/coat

Murphy's Mom

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just received a really great harness coat that I ordered from a company I found searching the web. My link I always use a harness for Murphy and wanted a coat with a good built in harness and didn't even know if they made one since I've only since novelty type coats with a built in lead clip as opposed to a serious built in harness. I found this company and ordered one and love it. We've used it all week during our early morning walks and I don't have one complaint! It is so easy to get on and off and keeps Ms. Murphy warm during our early morning walks. It's been a bit chilly in the mornings here in north Georgia. I just ordered a rain coat from them as well.

Note: I have no financial interest in this company. I merely want to share with ya'll a good harness/coat product.

THANKS!!!! just what I have been looking for forever. I like to use a coat when really cold or raining and always use a harness, but I have to use a regular collar with the coat I have because with a harness and the coat they rub under her armpits. So I can't wait to order one for her.

What size did you order for yours (how much does yours weight?) Nena is 13 pounds

Thanks for sharing.

need to ask you another question after looking closely at the coats, the ring that you attach the leash to looks plastic. Is it strong enough for your liking. The harness's I have already use a metal ring even when the other clasps to attach around the dog are plastic. Was worried alittle about them breaking, Nena is a puller.

Hi Nena: I have a size small for Ms. Murphy, she's 15lbs. The size small is for 10-24 lbs with a 12" length which is perfect for her. Yes the ring is plastic but it's plenty strong for my liking and I have no concerns. Murphy pulls also when she sees a rabbit at the park and I didn't have a problem.

Doesn't she look great in her new Black Stewart Fleece coat? 002.jpg

This is something I've been curious about.

How many folks have found it necessary to get a coat for their pups?

This will be Maxwell's first winter - well, second technically but I doubt he remembers the first (he's a Christmas puppy!). His outer coat is still coming out, and in some spots he doesn't have much for an undercoat (especially his tummy).

Would you say cairns tend to need sweaters or coats in the colder weather? I'm curious because they're small, and small dogs tend to need something to help keep them warm, but cairns have a pretty substantial coat of their own.

I dont make them wear jackets but I do have a a couple pull over sweaters when it gets really cold {below zero}. But the sweaters are mostly for angel since her hair is thinner. Scotty I make him wear a harness that protects his chest when he plays in the snow. {he pounces in the snow like a bunny}But he is all boy he probably wouldn't care either way. If he had his way he would be outside 24-7 no matter how cold it is.

They are a hardy breed. However some parts of the country have some weather that is probably a bit more extreme than their ancestral homeland. I don't personally think Cairns really need coats. (Despite having a weakness for a particularly stylish one :P )

I got a coat for Louie last year when he was a puppy because he shivered. But, this year I'll take a wait and see approach and if he needs it, I'll dig it out. I have a feeling though this year it won't be needed as he's like me and the colder it is, the more alive he feels we may bring it to Missouri as he may not be used to the cold there from living in Va.

Actually his coat was very similar but not a harness too. It had a harness hole in the back which worked well. We've stopped using one though because it made him want to pull a lot more.

I tend to use the sweaters if we go for walks for two reasons. First for the warmth, Bailey doesn't have too much of an undercoat. Although I really don't think he needs it with his energy. Second, it keeps their tummy's from picking up all the road salt & dirt and dragging it in the house. When I let them out to do their business, they just go out quickly and I don't bother. Although I'll have to see with Bailey this is also our second winter with him and last year we didn't have much snow. If we get more, he may not want to come in right away.

I think Casey, our westie, needs the sweater more as she is now a senior citizen and takes everything a little slower. Besides do you know how cute a westie looks in red sweaters...adorable!!

I imagine it would bring a smile to anyone's face.

My little "mix" girl seems to shiver a little on the shadey back deck so I bought her a sweater because she loves to be out there watching the birds and squirrels. I think she looks pretty cute to. It looks like a Santa outfit but in fact it's a garnet sweater with white snowflakes and furry cuffs and hood. It makes us smile whenever she wears it.

Very good idea about the dirt. We went caching yesterday and Louie was miserable with the pine needles sticking to him. Maybe I could get him a shirt or t-shirt of some sort.

Holly was given a coat last year but she did not like wearing it - in fact she just became a statue when I put it on! Would not move. But it is quite a thick one. As we seem to be having a lot of rain lately, I would like her to wear a raincoat type garment because she takes ages to dry and does not stay still whilst towelling her. The harness coat seems a good idea as I use a harness so she may accept that. If I cannot find it in UK may ask neice in Harrisburg to get one for me but will have to hope it fits and she will wear it!

When I take Holly to Clumber near here she is always picking up leaves/pine needles/sticky burrs on her legs and stomach - she hates getting them and bites herself to get them off but I usually have to squat down and do it for her before she will carry on walking. I think their fur just attracts this stuff so Louie is no different! I don't think a tee shirt would make much difference if he gets them on legs and feet like Holly.

I firm in England do fleece garments with long sleeves [www.mekuti.co.uk] which would protect better [but Holly would not let me put that over her head anyway!] They may have them in USA too.
