Teddy in the leaves

Teddy seems to have completely mapped the house, and has no difficulty heading straight for the things I don't want him to find (like speaker wires). He has filled out just a little bit, weighing in now at 9.7 pounds. I'm very hopeful that by the end of the month he might reach the 10 lbs the vet is aiming for.

In the food department we have had a little breakthrough, as Teddy will now accept three different kinds of kibble. I am hoping he will eventually broaden the criteria to accept canned food, and maybe from there on to treats. So far all canned food, fruit, peanut butter, maple syrup, and yummy doggy treats have been politely but firmly rejected. Of course, he was that way about other kibbles at first. One step at a time.

He still has a lot of trouble finding us when we call, but we keep practicing. He is really improving at walking on a leash. We haven't found anything yet that we can use as a treat for training, but fortunately Teddy responds to affectionate speech and petting almost as intensely as most dogs respond to treats. He loves to be told he is a good boy, and it seems to help in getting him to pace along on a leash.

Today was an absolutely beautiful day and we were able to spend long periods outside. Teddy is very fast and so getting a picture is very difficult (yes, I was still using my rotten phone camera). This picture of him intently exploring some light underbrush is the only one that came out really clearly.

Enjoy!

Great news about the weight gain. Love the picture, looks like he is studying the branch in front of him.

thanks for the update.

Teddy is too cute! I'm so glad he's really making his way around! It takes time for animals to settle and get a custom to things, especially with vision loss, but still FAR faster than us humans! So glad he's loving the outdoors!

Getting into mischief already, found the speaker wires lol. That is just fantastic. Malcolm says go explore the closet, there are all kinds of goodies in there.

Whooooo Hooooo! Way to go Teddy! Now he is trying to come into the "terrier" side of himself...speaker wires, etc. Glad to see that he enjoys the outdoors. Keep up the good work and thank you for posting his progress. This sounds like a journal that must be kept for future writings (aka Marley and Me). Just a little hint, only saying that I truly enjoy the subject and how he is written to inform us of his progress and struggles. Again, thank you pkcrossley.

Aah, lovely to know he likes forbidden things like most of our terrors! And looks so cute amongst the leaves - it must be wonderful for him to experience new things. Keep the stories coming about him please - I look forward to hearing how he is doing!

He's darling!

For training treats, you might see if he would consent to eat sliced hot dogs (my dog's trainer just used them straight out of the pouch, no cooking necessary).
