SparkyJonesMom
Well, Sparky has a sister! As many of you have guessed, my husband and I decided to adopt DKC's 5 month old female pup, Molly. She lives about 30 minutes away, and we wanted our next pup to come from a rescue or something, so this was the perfect opportunity. We took Sparky to meet Molly this morning, and they played for almost an hour. They ran, sniffed, wrestled, collapsed, ran some more, and just got to know each other. Molly is an adorable Wheaten pup, and Sparky likes her. She went inside the house for about 2 minutes, but when she did, Sparky started whining. They're still trying to test each other and figure each other out, but they are having fun and wearing each other out. One thing's for sure, though, and that's that Molly won't take any of Sparky's crap. She's pinned him a few times, and he seems confused. Almost like, "Hey, what's going on here? This isn't how it's supposed to happen!" So far she's been very sweet and cute. When we were driving home, I asked my husband if he liked her. He said, "I love her already." She did pee on our rug already, but that's definitely to be expected since she's only 5 months old, and she's in a new place and doesn't know the routine or the rules yet. I feel like once we can start the normal weekday routine, it'll be easier for her to figure it out. Since we already had the name "Scout" picked out for our next pup, we'll be changing Molly's name eventually. Right now we're going to call her Molly until she gets used to things. Then it'll be Molly-Scout for a while so she'll get used to hearing and coming to "Scout." Then we'll just call her "Scout." We're really glad we were able to help out someone on this forum, and we got a great little pup. I'm attaching a few pictures, and later I'll add a little video that I took. rtherapy60
They look so happy together and so do you You'll be amazed how well they keep each other occupied and learn new things from each other too..as in... how to perfect begging, how to gode the other one into jumping up and down to go outside, the best route to getting the squeaker out of stuffed toys, and the list goes on. But we've found that though they may be the same breed they certainly have thier own personalities lol. The very best of luck to you Sparky and Molly/Scout. You won't regret adding another furkid to your family. We get soooo many laughs out of our 2, I don't know what we'd do without them now. If you want the best seat in the house, move the dog. josie&holly
I am so glad that that Sparky got on with Molly, and that you have MollyScout at home with you now. She looks a beautiful girl and she and Sparky look happy and good together [and so do you with them!!]. I am sure that she will soon get used to a regular caring routine and be house trained etc very quickly. The pee on rug is probably to make sure Sparky knows there is a female around and I would not be surprised if she bosses him about! Good luck to you with the two of them and look forward to hearing further adventures of Sparky and [Molly] Scout as I am sure the two of them will get up to all sorts of antics together! They both have a mischievous gleam in their eyes! www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
dinib
Yay! Yay! Yay! I am glad for Molly and Sparky. If Molly is anything like Gracie, she will just boss him around. We had some squabbles here, but it was mostly noise and slobber. Still learning the boundaries. Sparky is going to be so happy he has someone to play with all the time. PS - I like how they are color coordinated with your rug.
Nena
That is great news that you took Molly!!!!!!!! I told the story to my DH about the post that she did not want her dog anymore and he said right away "we will take her" I did'nt know in what state the dog was from but I am thrilled to read you have a good home for Molly Scout. Thank you so much for taking her into your hearts. We plan to add another to our home in the future and I will make sure we take in an unwanted cairn too. God Bless that just makes my day cairn terriers leave pawprints on our lives

SparkyJonesMom
Uh oh. We had our first problem. Sparky hates the idea of Molly-Scout eating. I fed Sparky first, and he gobbled it up faster than usual so that by the time I got Molly-Scout her food, he kind of attacked her. Maybe he thinks of it as only his food. Any suggestions? dinib
I feed both of mine in their own crates because they are on different food. Gracie doesn't know her boundaries so when I give them both a really good treat, I seperate them. However, I do practice giving them Natural Balance Beef Roll treats (cut up teeny-tiny) when we are training. They sit side by side and I alternate the treats between them. carolinaila09
yay they are so cute together! looks like its going to be a lot of fun for you and them. i am no expert on the feeding thing since while our lab is around shes always outside and paisley is inside. but i dont know if maybe you can feed them in separate places for a while until sparky gets used to her being there and everything? maybe a baby gate to separate them. i dont know if that would be a good idea or not, just the first suggestion that came to my mind! hope this small problem works itself out after a few days! **Ila and Paisley**
SparkyJonesMom
Thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely feed them in separate rooms, at least until Sparky gets used to the idea. It's so funny. He's the equivalent of a 4 year old child who gets jealous of the new baby. Molly-Scout came with a bag full of toys, and I had bought 4 new toys, also. Two for Sparky, and Two for Molly-Scout. I gave each of them one new toy, and Sparky wanted them both. He chewed on one, and then when Molly-Scout went to get the other one, he ran over to that one really quickly and started chewing on it. Spoiled. He needs to learn to share. Haha. BetsyNoodle
Yes, I had a feeling there was a wonderful rescue-adoption in process, so it was great to see my suspicions confirmed. I am so glad you were able to help DKC out. I love happy endings. Molly-Scout resembles my precious Betsy Noodle, who now lives happily at Rainbow Bridge. Murphy is a gray brindle and I hope to one day add a little wheaten girl to our family. Murphy, who was two when we got him from rescue, had several "accidents" in our home until we got him re-trained. Watching our black Lab, Gracie, potty outside really helped Murphy. I am sure it will be the same with Molly and Sparky. I like the way Cesar Millan deals with feeding aggression issues between two pups. He feeds the most docile dog first, in front of the aggressive one (whom he has leashed), to let the aggressive one know the aggression will not be tolerated. Only then, is the aggressive dog allowed to eat his food. Over time, Cesar is able to put both bowls down in the same room without a fight. I have seen this before in dogs in my own family, and it can get worse unless it is nipped in the bud. But, it is relatively easy to correct, so, before long, the two of them will be best friends. Best wishes, Melissa
