Nena
I did a search for harness and saw alot. Mine always uses a harness and would like try another type. I saw the buddy belt and am wondering if it is comfortable (being all leather) and if they bother their front legs? I use the regular ones from petco but would like to try another. Also they show on a dachsund I wondered if they are strong enough for a cairn terrier. the Puppia harness looks comfortable but I wonder if it is hard to put on. Anyone use these harness? josie&holly
The Puppia harness is very good, not difficult to put on. Holly walks well wearing that but it does tend to get mucky underneath! Used it in Winter/rainy weather as protects her chest. www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
kandya
The Puppia is easy to put on, but I found Abby seemed to get to hot with it on. We went back to old harness. Abby Rose
OzGirl
For most of our walks/outings Roxy and Susie wear a Puppia harness, I find it easy enough to put on them. I haven't noticed them getting overly hot wearing them during the summer months. If we go to the beach I use their old strap harness cos its better for getting wet and sandy. Thistle
I have a buddy belt for Thistle (although she's outgrown it now) and it worked really well. No problems with chafing.
Sandi16
We have a puppia harness, but I attribute this harness for causing Louie to forget how to walk well on his leash. Since it's cloth, pulling him back doesn't cause him any discomfort and makes him want to pull harder against my yank. It looks nice and he is very comfortable in it though. cairnsby3
I think most harnesses cause a dog to pull. They can be trained to not pull when they have a collar on, but they do pull with harnesses. Again it's the pick your battles thing. Mine walk for exercise with harnesses and 26' flexi's, but the point of the walk is exercise, especially for them, for that I'll put up with the pulling. They have learned not to pull in obedience class with their obedience collars on. With their regular everyday collars it's somewhere in between, they would like to pull but can be talked out of it. SparkyJonesMom
I tried two different types of harnesses with Sparky. One was just a regular, inexpensive harness you can get anywhere. The second one was a Sporn harness. With both of them, Sparky pulled terribly, and I didn't know how to stop him. I took him to a trainer, and she said to stop him on the harness because they make a dog want to pull (i.e. sled dogs). She told me to get him a slip collar (it loops in on itself, and it's loose around the neck until he starts pulling, and then it tightens up), and it works wonders. Now I have a dog that walks next to me, instead of pulling to be ahead. He still pulls when he sees a rabbit or a bird or something, but that's just his instincts. We do still use the Sporn harness when I attach it to the seatbelt for a short trip in town (for longer trips, he of course gets crated). It has padding that doesn't cause his armpits (legpits?) to chafe. Sparky Jones & Scout Jones
Sandi16
Yeah we've quit the harness overall. When we first get out the door he goes a little bonkers, but it's not too long before he's walking better.
