Malcolm's Dad
I was letting Malcolm out for the night before bedtime. He did his business and was having his late night sniff around the yard. All of sudden Malcolm and the dog next door starting barking like crazy. Then a kid ran through the yard on the other side of me. Next thing a policeman was at my back gate asking if I saw anyone. I told them where the kid ran. The police ran where I pointed and they caught the kid down the street. Good dog and great police work. Then the police came back looking in the alley and the yards looking for a gun the kid dropped. They didn't find anything and I told them if the kid dropped anything in my yard Malcolm would find it. Chicago is such a rotten city. Seems like every night a kid is getting killed in gang warfare. Last night a 9 year old girl was killed while she was washing her dog. Malcolm isn't big enough to stop anyone, but he sure is a good watchdog. He got a bunch of treats for his good work.
DawnandTuk-tuk
Good for Malcolm! But that's scary! I haven't heard about Chicago's gang issues in the news. That's so sad for the girl and her family. Seems like politians are always crying on tv for forgiveness for something when they should be fixing our problems instead of serving selfish interests. It's disgusting. We are keeping raging gang issues under control here in Phoenix (we've managed to earn the kidnap capital of the US title though), but just barely. Our big issue is education, we rank like 50th or 49th, it changes year to year but it's always one of those, in the country on performance. So when all this financial crisis hit and the state legistalature had to cut back the budget the very first thing to get cut, and cut big, was education (of course they didn't cut the cushy high end district jobs, they cut classroom funding and teacher jobs). Our elected officials should be cleaning up your streets and funding our students but instead they are doing talk show appearances, and generally behaving in ways that would get most of us fired from our jobs or even arrested! Oh if I had a little bit more time I would run for office myself! My dad always said if you don't like the way something is done then you should stand up and do something about it! jodi0553
Yeah Malcolm! Terriers are indeed fantastic watch dogs (but crummy guard dogs...mine would probably kiss the bad guy to death if he caught him)! It must have been scary for you to find out that his barking was for a good reason! Sorry to hear your neighborhood has those problems. I used to live in Evanston and the number of muggings in my neighborhood skyrocketed a few years ago before I moved away and I really hated it even though I loved the many other things Chicago had to offer You should feel secure knowing that if you have a prowler Malcolm will be sure to warn you. josie&holly
Good for Malcolm! Yes, Holly would probably warn of prowler but again would probably lick him to death if got near him!! www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk

rtherapy60
You go Malcolm! Plus you'll never have to worry about anyone breaking into your home either. I feel sorry for any fool who tried to break into our house..lol I told DH maybe I need to make a sign for the front door. "Please do not knock. Highly sensitive Cairn Security System is in force" I'm sure the mailman would know what it meant Cooper would just bark but Jezzy on the other hand would probably try to take off whatever came through the door/window first. If you want the best seat in the house, move the dog.
Idaho Cairns
Congrats to Malcom, I am looking forward to his appearance on "Cops"! I would invite all you Cairn owners to think about a change of location--we don't have many of the problems you city folks have out here. I know it sounds strange but I have no idea where the key is to my front door--misplaced it years ago and haven't had the need for it since. One nice thing about the Intermountain West is the almost total absence of the kind of criminal activity that puts bad guys in your back yard. But, then, there are our winters!!!!! Scruffys Mom
I am so proud of Malcolm, but so sorry we are living like this. I live in central FL., one of the nations highest crime areas . There has been so much crime here I think about it daily. Several of my neighbors have recently had there doors ripped off with crow bars and homes stripped. Many people comment that they are envious of my "barking dogs". Never thought in a million years I would hear that!. I have worked so hard on controlling the bark. I always always say "good dog'. and then I command "quiet". My big fear is that I get robbed and someone either steals or lets my dogs out. I am a cyclist and recently while on the bike trail I encountered a pack of pets. Not the typical pack, but a cocker, a beagle etc. I was able to catch one of the pups and call the owner (This is why I am so adamant about ID collars). When I got the owner on the phone he explained 6 houses on the street had just been robbed and the thieves let all the pets out in the street. It makes me so sick we are living like this.
