😄😄That could have been Ruffy... He always liked to find small spaces to "den" in: cupboards, under beds, etc.,  especially when we would go visiting - we would always have to search for him when it was time to leave!

Is that a "cairn thing" or was it just another personality quirk?

I think it’s a Cairn thing.  If they’re not the center, then they tuck themselves into a cozy spot.

That photo was before we got him, apparently in the headboard bookshelf of his owners at the time.  His favorite oddball napping place here is in Peggy's laundry basket in her closet. Peggy being Peggy stopped using it as a laundry basket and put a fleecy bed in the basket for him. If I can't find him, that's where he is.

How old was he when you got him…he looks all growed up! What a cutie.

He was a bit under two and came to us as "Buddy." His owner passed away suddenly and her husband went to assisted living with the older Cairn Jimmy until he too was rehomed.  Last year the surviving owner had a day trip from assisted living and a reunion with both dogs. Elroy as expected snuggled right up and made Ed's day — and ours too frankly. All Cairns are precious and Elroy in particular seems to have been touched by an angel.
