This is the latest of the "Chet and Bernie" mysteries, with Chet (the dog) and Bernie Little (the human) "partners" in the Little Detective Agency. I don't usually like books narrated by animals either, but in this case Chet is very dogly, and his viewpoint on their life and work is humorous and sometimes poignant.
You don't have to start with the first book to enjoy them, but I do recommend it.
