It's time once again — I will soon be updating CairnTalk to the most current version of the software.

My plan is to do this at some point next week, Monday January 11th through Friday January 15th.
What Will Happen
The site will be taken offline briefly once the update begins. If you visit during this period you should see a maintenance message but you may also see an occasional dire-sounding error message. These severe-sounding messages are usually temporary as critical files are being overwritten.
Total offline time is expected to be approximately three hours once the upgrade begins, if all goes well. The site may go offline intermittently for shorter periods during preparations, restart, and follow-up.
After the Update
Our site uses several third-party add-ons to provide additional features and functionality. After the update each of those will be updated as their providers make their updates to correspond to the new version. Those updates will be on-going for an indeterminate period of time but do not take the forum off-line.
Similarly our site is heavily customized in appearance updates often break those customizations. Once the site is generally functional I will turn the site back on but continue to work on restoring any broken customizations. These changes are generally cosmetic in nature so some things may look ugly or awkward but still work.
If you experience unexpected behavior while using the site, please post in the support forum so that I can track and document any issues that need addressing (and to alert other site users of the issue).
